Why & How to Book Virgin Voyages
Virgin Voyages isn’t your typical cruise line. No buffets. No kids. No formal nights. No nickel-and-diming for every little thing.
Instead, the experience is built around great food, curated entertainment, and I appreciate a lot of things are already included in the price.
Here’s a breakdown of what makes Virgin Voyages different and how to book.
How Spending Onboard Works
Virgin Voyages ships are cashless, so everything is charged to your onboard account using your bracelet. The Band, which has been created through a partnership with BIONIC Yarn, is made from recycled ocean plastic. It is lightweight, relaxed and nautically inspired – and Sailors can take it home as a post-voyage keepsake.
Sailor Loot (Onboard Credit)
Sailor Loot is basically onboard spending money.
You can use it for things like:
• Cocktails and specialty coffee
• Spa treatments
• Shore excursions
• Premium food upgrades
• Shopping onboard
Like your bar tab, promotions that include Sailor Loot, I will apply between when you book and before full payment is due.
Bar Tab
Virgin Voyages doesn’t do traditional drink packages.
Instead, you can preload a Bar Tab, which is credit specifically for cocktails, wine, and beer.
If you prepay before the cruise, Virgin often adds bonus credit on top, which makes it one of the best values on board.
The bar tab can also be shared with friends.
When booking with me, I keep an eye out for promos that add bonus credits to your bar tab.
Events and Shows
Virgin Voyages entertainment is completely different from traditional cruise shows.
Think immersive theatre, DJ parties, late-night events, comedy shows, and unexpected pop-up performances.
Events can be reserved through the app before sailing or once onboard.
Popular shows often fill quickly, so it’s smart to reserve early once the booking window opens.
Shore Excursions (Called “Shore Things”)
Shore excursions are booked through the app or through me and usually open around 120 days before sailing.
These experiences can include:
• Snorkeling and water adventures
• Cultural tours
• Local food experiences
• Beach clubs
• Adventure excursions
Themed Nights & Special Events
Virgin Voyages is famous for its onboard energy and themed nights.
The most famous event is Scarlet Night, where the entire ship turns red for one giant party with live music, performers, dancing, and surprises.
Other themed nights and events can include:
• PJ Party
• Retro dance nights
• Drag shows
• Comedy nights
• Deck parties under the stars
Restaurants
One of the best parts of Virgin Voyages is the food.
There are no buffets and no assigned dining rooms. Instead, you choose from restaurants like Korean BBQ, Italian trattorias, steakhouses, experimental kitchens, and more.
Here’s how reservations work:
• Dining reservations open 15, 45 or 60 days before sailing, depending on your cabin type.
• You can book through the Virgin Voyages app or through me as your travel agent
• Once onboard, additional times open daily
My insider tip: book the most popular restaurants early, especially Extra Virgin and The Wake.
